Almost everything has its good and bad aspects. If you use them properly and in a limited quantity, they are not harmful. Whereas, when you do or use anything in excess, it is bound to become harmful; there is a general saying that excess of everything is bad.

On the other hand, when something is used in excess, it can cause harm; generally anything in excess is considered bad. People have been making use of alcohol since many years. They utilise it in the form of a drink, and as a drug. However, it has now changed into a harmful factor for many families, and the entire society. It has clearly become a trouble-causer.

Things that are abused instead of being used result in various damages. In case alcohol is taken in a particular quantity, it results in numerous benefits. Diseases such as heart diseases can be helped by alcohol in limited amounts. However, using it in excess can lead to fatalities. Many people are alcohol addicts, just like some people are drug addicts. Researches have shown that, if taken in a small quantity, alcohol helps the brain to release some hormones that relieve anxiety. But, if taken in large quantity, this affect does not take place.

People who become alcohol dependants are generally called alcoholics. A person dependant on alcohol has the same feeling and cravings for more consumption as the drug addicts have for the drugs.

An alcoholic is not the same when not consuming alcohol, but in case, one consumes too much, the person becomes intoxicated, and is unable to attain his aims.

Alcohol abuse causes liver damage and many other physical disorders. There are many mental and psychological problems that a person develops because of alcohol abuse; depression is one of the most common that a person may develop. This depression makes an alcohol isolated from people. In many cases, depression has lead to suicide attempts.

An alcoholic cannot function without alcohol consumption, but when he takes too much, he become intoxicated and cannot achieve his targets. Excessive alcohol consumption leads to brain damage, which in turn causes many neuropsychiatric and Neurological defects.

A consistent, heavy dependence on alcohol may lead to brain shrinkage, impairment of brain chemistry, and dementia. In addition, it negates growth of brain cells; therefore, causing memory loss, and causing damage to learning abilities.

Youth with a history of alcohol abuse are not very successful in reference to studies because of their learning disability caused by alcohol consumption in excess. Therefore, we can conclude that excessive alcohol consumption is equally harmful when compared to drug addiction.

It should be avoided in all cases. If a family member or friend has such an unhealthy habit, you should take them to a rehabilitation centre prior to the occurring of any sort of permanent damage.
