Leading the good life in a positive way is relatively easy to pull off as long as one keeps in mind that the work needed to keep just a bit of the old life after entering into a new life after marriage or commitment can be significant. However, the rewards inherent in managing not only a new life, and possibly a new family, while also bringing in a bit of the positive aspects of the old life, can be great.
For example, maybe you were once a fairly good musician and you had a good gig going in a band but you also finally met the woman of your dreams and all of the things that come with that. As long as you make sure that you're taking care of business, to use a line from an old rock standard, you can still pull out your Ibanez electric guitar and have a few jam sessions with friends on occasion.
It's important to remember that there is a crucial word that underlines all of the above, and that word is 'priorities.' If you hope to have a bit of your old life while also taking care completely of your new life for the benefit of your wife or husband and even the kids, should they arrive, you're going to have to decide what's important in your life and also what may be not so important but which might be nice to have.
Maybe you and your wife, for example, have welcomed a new baby into the world. That's a fantastic occurrence, everybody would say, but how do you make sure you take care of the needs of the baby and your wife while also addressing your need to head out to the wilderness and photograph some of that beauty before it disappears? Well, you and the wife need only put the baby in something like an Eddie Bauer convertible baby seat and go together.
The point to all of this is that you need to look at life like a big cake; slice it up into its proper proportions and have a piece -- in a manageable size, of course -- and enjoy it. And a good way of sweeping up one or another of those pieces is to get to work on all those projects you now want to do around your home. Making it more habitable for the family may mean pulling out a portable space heater and getting that unheated garage wired up, for example.
In actuality, keeping the best of what he once had while also joining it completely to what you now have -- if looked at positively -- is eminently doable. Keep in mind that you always want to have things you can count on in your life, such as the love of a family and your love for them. It can help you grow as a person while also helping you to better plan out your life just a bit more than you once were capable of doing.
Having your cake and eating it too needn't be all that difficult, especially these days when there are so many tools that exist for helping one plan out his or her life right down to the color of socks to wear on any given day two years from now. There are plenty of fine ways one can go about keeping just a bit of one's own life even in the face of the new, and better, life that can come from family and marriage.
