The idea of psychic powers is one that's been in our world for untold millennia. The idea that psychic development is something that's bad or even evil is completely false. As mentioned, every human is capable of having and using these abilities. There are two main things that you must have in order to even begin to wrap your mind around the idea of these powers. The first is unyielding faith in yourself and the second is a flexible mind.
Psychic abilities are not mystical or even magical. They go beyond our world, as we know it, and often labeled as magic tricks. The development of psychic abilities requires only that you accept unscientific and unorthodox things as being true. Accepting that the mind is much more powerful than you've been led believe is the first step in the process.

Although working with the deceased sounds rather creepy, it does have a legitimate purpose. When people die they have ties to the world of the living, loved ones, issues that have not been resolved. This prevents them from moving on and causes them misery and pain. A psychic working in this area tries to help the unfortunate soles so they can be released from this world and move on to the next dimension.
Keeping in mind that this isn't some current fad or trend or something cool. Using these abilities to work with peoples souls requires a great deal of responsibility.
